Customer Comments1) We invited a local modeller (and O.S. fan) Mike Russell (Bracknell M.A.C.) to lend us his 1 year old (used probably most weekends) O.S. 46FX. We set it up on our test bench with a balanced APC 11x6 prop, O.S. no8 plug and used our normal test fuel (17% oil, 5% nitro). It was a cold damp day and the rpm recorded was 11,200.
We then replaced Mike's piston and liner with our version - and after only 2 tanks of running in (on the same day) recorded the same rpm, 11,200.
We then took the piston and liner back out of the 46FX and built one of our CHOS46FX 'short' engines. We re-used Mike's carb, backplate assembly and silencer and put it back on the test bench. Same fuel plug and prop (on the same day) and recorded 11,600 rpm!! (on an APC 10x6 the rpm was 13,600!!)
Why? - because our crankcase uses better matched internal porting and therefore has better gas flow!!
Let's just say we thanked each other for the experiment - and Mike left with our engine!!
2) A recent .40FX we serviced (and used our Piston/Liner) ran up (1st tank) with an APC 10x6 to 13,000. The customer took it away before the engine had chance to cool!!
